The Criminal Investigation Section (CIS) has a diverse and complex mission. Foremost, in this mission is the investigation of crime throughout the county. Although most of a Criminal Investigator's time and efforts are committed to criminal investigations, Investigators are also involved in the following activities: Runaway Investigations, Pre-employment Investigation, Truth Verification Examinations, Sex Offender Registration and Notification, Concealed Carry Weapons Licensing (CCW), and Towing Company Operations.

Commander Steve Arrasmith oversees the Criminal Investigation Section. He is assisted by Lieutenant Shaun Embleton and Sergeant John Smith. The Criminal Investigation Section is staffed with ten Detectives, three of which are assigned to Deerfield Township. Detectives work closely with various law enforcement units, including the Drug Task Force, Fire Marshal, and the Prosecutor's Office, along with the uniformed Deputies and police officers from various agencies.
